First stop: Charlemagne Island, a 70ha outdoor activity centre on the banks of the Loire with games galore, sports grounds and a sandy beach. Then it’s time to head for the sublime Parc Floral de la Source, just south-east of Orléans. Lying between the rivers Dhuy and Loiret, this remarkable garden is also home to a butterfly house, a tropical garden and an authentic train running on rails. The kids are certain to adore it!

Let your journey begin back in medieval days, Rue de la Charpenterie, as you admire the authentic half-timbered houses. Then, head towards the famous Sainte-Croix Cathedral to discover the most gorgeous view over the town. From the top of its 252 steps, you’ll be able to see as far as the Sologne, easily recognisable thanks to its immense forest! Finally, it’s time to cast off for a royal boat trip aboard an authentic toue, the traditional local fishing boat. And, to end the day the best possible way, it even drops you off at a romantic guinguette, for an evening of dining and dancing on the riverbank!
