River vs lake: which is the right destination for you?

You’d really like to get back to nature? Then it’s time to opt for a camping stay in the heart of the natural world, far from the crowds and everyday hassle! And what better way to totally disconnect than with a lake or a river in your back garden? If you haven’t yet decided which setting you prefer, we’ve put together a few ideas to help you make up your mind!

River
Lake

Calling all extreme sports lovers, your campsite stay by the river is the opportunity you’ve been dreaming of to try canoeing, canyoning or rafting! With your friends or up-and-coming young adventurers, simply pick your favourite activity. But watch out, it might become addictive!

Calm shallow waters, gently shelving beaches sheltered from the wind... A lakeside campsite is ideal for holidays with young children! Even baby can splash happily in total safety.

Gorges du Verdon, Gorges de l’Ardèche, the Hérault Valley, or that of the Vézère… In every corner of France, rivers have created the most incredible panoramas. On foot or by bike, it’s time to head off and conquer them. But don’t forget your camera!

Three cheers for watersports! On the lakeshore, pedal-boats with slides, sailing dinghies and standup paddleboards... all lined up waiting just for you. There’s something for every age and every taste! Unbeatable for an outing with all the family as you take time out to admire the scenery. All aboard me hearties!

Picnic basket on your arm, set out in search of a pretty spot to settle down to enjoy lunch in perfect tranquillity. Lulled by the gently lapping water, you can’t help but feel relaxed and a world away from the everyday.

Where there’s a lake, there’s a forest! And that means plenty of cycle tracks and hiking trails waiting for you to explore every corner before you return to the lakeshore. You’ve certainly earned that refreshing dip!

Over to you! With the family, have fun building makeshift boats out of branches and watch as they’re carried away by the current. The first one to cross the finishing line is the winner!

Over to you! So who’s up for skimming stones? Grab the family and head off on a pebble hunt to try to beat your record. Even the dog’s having a whale of a time!

Because each summer is warmer than the last, who can resist the desire to dive into that deliciously refreshing water, far from the overcrowded beaches of high season!

Hooked on fishing? You’ll be able to enjoy your favourite activity! Several of our campsites have their own private lake where fishing is allowed. So don’t forget your licence and... here’s hoping they’ll be biting!

Feel inspired...
