The Proumeyssac Chasm, a must-visit during your holiday!
No doubt you already know that the Dordogne conceals as many treasures below ground as it does on the surface. The Vézère Valley, a land marked by prehistoric man, conceals the largest underground cavity in the Périgord, the famous Proumeyssac Chasm, a fascinating site justly re-named the “Crystal Cathedral”. On foot or aboard a unique basket, head off to explore this listed beauty spot, only a few minutes from your campsite in the Dordogne!
In between your excursions, take time out to enjoy the pleasure of the campsite’s heated swimming pools or the comfort of your fully-equipped cottage. You love being truly close to nature? Discover our tree-planted pitches waiting to welcome your tent or campervan! For our campers who can never keep still, a host of activities are available all season long, whether you prefer to enjoy them on your own or accompanied by our entertainers. And the kids also have a busy programme lined up for them in the free mini clubs!
Visit the Proumeyssac Chasm with the family
Explorer mode activated! After a great holiday breakfast at the campsite, prepare for a day rich in adventures as you head towards Audrix where the Vézère meets the Dordogne. Here, the Proumeyssac Chasm invites you for a unique visit: aboard its basket, enjoy a panoramic view of the incredible concretions thanks to its slowly-turning floor. Spectacular!
As you return to the surface, the adventure continues for all the family in the educational Ludo Parc: a life-size goose game to understand the geology of the chasm, an open-air speleology trail, a merry-go-round that explains the history of the cave... There’s so much to learn whilst simply having fun!
Visit the Proumeyssac Chasm as a couple
After a fascinating immersion to discover its rectangular crystals, its petrifying fountain and the imposing walls of the Proumeyssac Chasm itself, it is time to return to the open air. And what would you say to combining your visit to the chasm with a romantic exploration of the Vézère Valley together?
From the village of Audrix, amongst the highest in the Périgord Noir, the valleys that stretch far into the distance can be explored along one of the 3 hiking trails that set off from the municipality. As river, forests and rolling hills fill the landscape, discover nature at its purest!
