Top reasons to choose our campsite near Marseille
Head off on holiday to the Bouches-du-Rhône, near Marseille, with your family or a group of friends. You’ll find top-class campsites along the Côte Bleue, particularly in Martigues. This means you can get to Marseille and the surrounding area quickly for cultural visits and to explore the famous calanques!
It’s easy to get to Marseille from our 4- or 5-star campsite on the Côte Bleue. By car, you can reach Marseille in just half an hour’s drive. It’s the perfect place to spend the whole day, only setting off again in the early evening to head back to the campsite! Take the train across the Côte Bleue to reach Marseille in just 50 minutes.
In Marseille, you simply can’t pass by the iconic neighbourhoods without stopping off:
- The historic heart of the city, Le Panier immerses you in a world of street art and pedestrian alleyways lined with colourful façades;
- The Old Port, the maritime heart of Marseille, invites you to enjoy a coffee or delicious meal by the water’s edge;
- In the bohemian district, the Cours Julien and La Plaine take you on a journey through time and around the world with their graffiti and second-hand clothes shops. The nightlife here is also very lively during the summer months;
As well as the neighbourhoods worth visiting, don’t miss the must-see sights:
- The Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde, also known as the “Bonne Mère”, overlooks the city from a height of 149 metres and offers a splendid panoramic view of the city;
- A 17th-century fortress, you can reach Fort Saint-Jean from the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (Mucem) via a footbridge over the sea;
- Between Le Panier and Port de la Joliette, make sure you take time to admire the architecture of the Cathedral of La Major.
During the summer months, some of the access roads to the calanques – notably those to Sormiou, Morgiou and Callelongue – are subject to seasonal restrictions or closures. So it’s best to use public transport to get there easily. Bus routes serve the starting points of the footpaths leading to the various calanques. You can also catch one from Castellane or the Prado roundabout.
Note that, in view of the popularity of the calanques in Marseille with tourists, the Calanques National Park has introduced a visitor limit. Don’t forget to book your visit in summer.
From your luxury campsite or Marseille city centre, hop on a boat for a trip to the Frioul Islands and Château d’If! All crossings depart from the Old Port. You could set off first thing in the morning to visit the castle, and spend the afternoon and early evening in Frioul, enjoying its water sports and a relaxed picnic on the beach.
