Les Baleines lighthouse, the ideal holiday destination!

Found in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines at the westerly tip of the Île de Ré, Les Baleines is one of the coast’s great lighthouses, built to watch over and protect seafarers for generations. The lighthouse site includes a tree-lined park, a museum and an old Vauban tower, a listed historical monument, and promises a great day out with the family or your sweetheart!

A happy holiday starts with the careful choice of your holiday home. We’ve got some good news: your Sandaya campsite has everything to please, being ideally located in the heart of the Île de Ré with the sea close by, free children’s clubs for your little campers, plus daytime and evening entertainment. What more could you ask for? Don’t delay – book today!

Visit the Les Baleines lighthouse with your family

A day at the lighthouse will be a treat for the whole family. Spend the morning bathing at the beach. Your budding swimmers will have hours of fun. You’ll no doubt build a few sandcastles and take some souvenir family photos at the foot of the lighthouse too.

But why do they call it “Les Baleines”, or the lighthouse of whales? Unfortunately, these wonderful sea creatures are not often spotted in the region. However, the answer to this question, and many others, can be found in the lighthouse museum. For an insight into the profession of lighthouse keeper, it is definitely worth a visit, however old – or young! – you are.

Visit the Les Baleines lighthouse as a couple

The best way to visit the Île de Ré is on a bicycle! So take to two wheels and set off on one the many cycle paths towards the lighthouse. Don’t forget your picnic and your beach towel, ready for a romantic day out under the watchful eye of the gentle stone giant.

The lighthouse beach, which feels like some far-flung corner of the world, will provide the perfect backdrop for your day-long escapade à deux! At lunchtime, enjoy your picnic as the sea breeze gently caresses your skin. Then, in the afternoon, enjoy a dip in the water followed by some serious sunbathing. And the romantic atmosphere will reach its peak as the day ends and the sun goes down, setting the sky – and your hearts – on fire!
