Just 30km in length, the Île d’Oléron still has plenty of treasures for holidaymakers who've come here to enjoy its special natural setting. Just a few minutes from your Sandaya campsite in the Charente-Maritime, you can get to the island easily by car or by campervan via a large bridge which links it to the mainland. The magic begins as soon as you arrive on the island: the Port des Salines at Le Grand-Village-Plage, with its multicoloured fishing cabins to the west, and the citadel of Le Château-d’Oléron looking eastwards towards the ocean. Park the car and set off on foot or by bike to discover its beaches of fine white sand, the pretty alleyways of its villages, and its cliffs looking out over the Atlantic. On Oléron, every view makes for a new feast for the eyes!
Back on the mainland, your Sandaya campsite in Aquitaine provides the perfect base between the Île d’Oléron and Royan. You'll have plenty of opportunity to explore the wide range of family activities and create your best ever holiday memories staying in the campsite! Smaller campers haven't been forgotten either! So now you're ready to choose the perfect rental option from the upmarket mobile homes and camping pitches we have available, and your family holiday beside the ocean can begin!

Seaside camping

Dreaming about seaside holidays, lying back on the long beaches of fine sand, or out looking for the colourful fish with your mask and snorkel? Come and lay out your towel on one of the various beaches you'll find on the Île d’Oléron and discover your little bit of paradise beneath the sunshine of Aquitaine! From the Chassiron lighthouse in the north of the island, to the Pointe de Gatseau in the far south, the beaches of Oléron come one after the other but none is the same as the last! Boardsport enthusiasts have found the Île d’Oléron to be a special when it comes to coastlines, and favour the west coast, which is particularly good for watersports. The coast provides bathers with a lovely view towards the famous Fort Boyard, while its calm waters are nothing short of an invitation to families to enjoy a relaxing break on its warm sand. Perfect for a picnic with the family! Or maybe you're looking for somewhere with a bit more privacy? Then head for the seafront and the beach of Gatseau, nestled between the ocean and the forest. A real natural haven of peace where you'll be able to make the most of the bathing in tranquillity, before heading back to your Sandaya campsite. And an evening packed full of entertainment will be just the way to round off your day!

A cruise to Fort Boyard

Make the most of your day in the sunshine by popping over to Fort Boyard, which is just a few minutes out to sea from the Île d’Oléron! While you can't visit the fort itself, you can enjoy seeing it from a sea cruiser or sailing boat. With your family, you won't have any trouble booking your sea trip from the Île d’Oléron, in Boyardville or at the harbour of Saint-Denis d’Oléron, for example. During your journey over the waves, you'll find out all there is to know about this fort, construction of which was ordered by Napoleon I, who was looking to protect the dockyard of Rochefort. While these days it serves a wholly different purpose, making it an international star through the TV programme of the same name, visitors who come to see its imposing fortress up close still find it highly impressive. So why not come and see it for yourself during your Sandaya camping holiday!
