A leisurely stroll up in the heights in tranquil surroundings with gorgeous views of the Pyrenees, followed by a tour of the fortress interior with its chapel and crypt, then a tasting of the local specialities in Villefranche-de-Conflent, including goat’s and ewe’s cheeses from the Pyrenees, or “Cargolade” a dish of snails cooked over a wood fire – bon appétit! Camping Fort Libéria: our handy tips for a successful stay
Get ready with a little warm-up before tackling the 734 steps of the underground staircase that links the town to the fort!
From the top of the fort, take in the sweeping view of Villefranche-de-Conflent, the Têt Valley and the Canigó foothills.
To keep the kids entertained, you’ll find guided, costumed visits, workshops and scavenger hunts in the summer season.
During your trip to the fort, make sure you visit the Prison des Dames, which housed female prisoners from the infamous Ille-sur-Têt “witch trials” in the 17th century!
