The Sigean African Reserve, a must-visit during your holiday!

Bags packed and finally ready to spend a gorgeous summer at one of our campsites on the Mediterranean coast? But what you don’t realise is that it’s also a trip to the heart of Africa that awaits you during your stay in the Languedoc-Roussillon! Between Narbonne and Perpignan hides one of the treasures of the region: the Sigean wildlife reserve, an immense park where some 3,800 animals live in semi-freedom. Since its creation in 1972, the reserve has put its heart and soul, not only into offering its visitors a unique opportunity to get close to the animals of Africa, but also into protecting the most fragile species. A factor that is without doubt one of the main reasons for the reserve’s success!

And for a stay near the Sigean African Reserve, nothing could be simpler: choose one of our Sandaya seaside campsites and let the adventure begin! Make the most of a setting certain to take you far away from the everyday with a stay in a fully-equipped cottage or out in the fresh air on a camping pitch. Once you’re all settled in, then it’s time to hit the water: the swimming pools and waterslides of the water park or the Mediterranean Sea, the choice is yours!

Visit the Sigean African Reserve as a family

The great day has finally arrived! Set your heading for Sigean and a visit with all the family that is likely to remain etched in your memory forever. Rendezvous early in the morning to begin your visit of the African Reserve: by car, follow the safari route that will take you through the African bush and the Tibetan bear park, across the vast lion enclosure and far across the savannah. Zebras, ostriches, giraffes and even rhinos, all await but you!

For the second part of your safari, continue on foot as you soak up all the ambiance offered by the wildlife around you. Follow along the banks of the large ponds of the Sigean reserve to observe the flamingos and pelicans, then antelopes, cheetahs and African wild dogs. The kids will be wide-eyed with wonder!

Visit the Sigean African Reserve as a couple

Being fascinated by the wild animals of the Sigean African Reserve is very definitely not just for the kids! Whatever your age, you’re certain to find the visit as spellbinding as it is authentic, as you rediscover your inner child!

In addition to a safari by car and on foot, the reserve also offers VIP visits by minibus accompanied by your own personal guide. The perfect way to quench your thirst for knowledge! And when lunchtime arrives, enjoy a special moment just the two of you at the park’s snack bar overlooking the savannah. A magical spot to make the most of a well-deserved break! To conclude your romantic excursion, stop off at the vast aviary or the reptile house where the brave of heart can get remarkably close to the alligators...

Camping Sigean African Reserve: our handy tips for a successful stay

To make the most of all the areas of the park and meet all its animals, don’t hesitate to allow an entire day for your visit!

In terms of refreshments, you’ll find all you need on-site: there are several snack bars and picnic areas reserved for visitors!

Reminder: the reserve is not a zoo; there is no guarantee of seeing the animals at very close quarters...
