The Étang de Thau, an unmissable port of call during your holidays!

Known as the “sea garden of Languedoc-Roussillon” this fabulous beauty spot awaits you for endless bathing, boat rides and delicious picnics on its sandy beaches. And it is also where you can sample the best of the region’s oysters, after all this is where oyster-farming first began!

Between the Étang de Thau and the Mediterranean Sea, let your Sandaya campsite in the Hérault take you on a discovery tour of this vast unspoilt site, a gem amongst Occitanie’s natural treasures. And when you’re not out and about exploring the area, you’ll have all the time you need to enjoy the activities at your 4 or 5 star campsite: bathing in the heated swimming pools of the water park, of course, but also family sports tournaments, aquagym, pétanque, mini-golf... You’ll certainly have no time to get bored! As night falls, return to the comfort of your fully-equipped mobile home, your tent or your campervan. Tomorrow, another sunny day awaits you in Languedoc-Roussillon!

Visit the Étang de Thau with the family

At the foot of Mont Saint-Clair in Sète, the Étang de Thau will set the scene for all your family adventures! Although it may be known for its incredible biodiversity, it is also perfect for fishing, underwater diving and a host of other water-based activities.

Set off from your Sandaya campsite and offer the kids an introduction to kitesurfing, sailing or canoe-kayaking on this large lagoon, lying between land and sea. Starting to feel peckish? Head for the beach at Bouzigues to put together an improvised picnic and splash happily in the shallow water with the youngest!

Visit the Étang de Thau as a couple

Fancy spending a relaxing day just the two of you? There’s no doubt about it, with a bike ride around the Étang de Thau you’re certain to find your own little corner of paradise! Its waters bathe the ports of Sète, Balaruc-les-Bains and Marseillan, making them perfect for sampling the oysters and other shellfish that come directly from the lagoon. So pull up a chair and settle yourselves comfortably on the terrace of one of the many restaurants.

And if you’d like to find out more about the history of this special stretch of water, unique in Europe, head for the Étang de Thau museum in Bouzigues!
