Salagou Lake, a must-visit during your holiday!

Just 40 minutes north of Montpellier lies one of the treasures of the Hérault to discover without fail during your next Sandaya holiday: the Salagou Lake. In a setting that seems to have come straight from another world its red rock, known as “ruffe”, contrasts dramatically with the black of the basalt and the emerald water of the lake. Result: a surprising palette of colours that stands out from the surrounding landscape, to explore on foot, on horseback, by bike or even swimming!

Just a few minutes from this listed site, emblematic of Languedoc-Roussillon, an address with every comfort awaits you at one of our seaside campsites. Days on the beach and excursions in the heart of nature, the perfect combination for a fabulous holiday! On a camping pitch or in a fully-equipped cottage, you’ll be able to enjoy all our leisure activities: heated water park with swimming pools and waterslides, fun and sports activities, luxury services... In fact everything is here for you on-site so that you can forget the car for a few days. And that, that’s camping inspired by freedom!

Visit Salagou Lake with the family

First thing in the morning it’s time to prepare your picnic hamper ready to head off to Salagou Lake and a glorious day filled with adventures! Salagou Lake is brimming with activities to enjoy with the family, on land, on water and even high in the air.

On-site, a watersports centre is waiting to welcome you on the lakeshore: pedal-boat, SUP, catamaran, canoe... All you have to do is choose, and you’re ready to head out over the waters of the 750ha lake and explore its every corner. You’re certain to find a little creek that will make the perfect setting for your holiday picnic! But if you prefer staying on dry land, there are plenty of footpaths that offer a chance to admire Salagou Lake from every possible angle, in a setting that is always exceptional.

Visit Salagou Lake as a couple

There may be a thousand different ways to explore Salagou Lake, but the view from the summit of Mont Liausson has to be the most beautiful. Hand-in-hand, head off along this hiking trail that has already won the hearts of so many admirers. The 7.5km walk (allow around 3½hours) offers a series of spectacular panoramas over the lake on one side and the strange dolomite rock pillars of the Mourèze Cirque on the other. A truly breathtaking spectacle!

As you return from your romantic day out together, why not stop off in the charming village of Mourèze. Dominated by the ruins of its ancient castle, you won’t be able to help falling under its charm and it will soon be high on the list of your favourite holiday memories from the Hérault!

Camping Salagou Lake: our handy tips for a successful stay

Did you know? Salagou Lake is man-made, created to irrigate the surrounding farmland and reduce flooding by the River Hérault!

Salagou Lake is a listed Grand Site de France and its biodiversity is protected. This is one of those beauty spots to be respected as much as it is to be admired!

Keen mountain biker? The lake has no less than 17 waymarked trails of varying lengths, a great way to explore the lake every which way!

All around the lake the local farmers produce honey, olives and wine! Mouth watering? Then it’s time for a delicious break in one of the nearby villages!
