Avranches, the ideal holiday destination!

Nestled in the hollow of Mont-Saint-Michel Bay, Avranches lies amidst some amazing landscapes formed of meadows, estuaries and characteristic bocage scenery. History lovers will be fascinated by its heritage and the D-Day landing beaches, while sports enthusiasts will appreciate lovely long walks through the tranquil countryside. So put on some comfortable shoes and we’ll take you to discover the Cotentin!

Want to chill out in Normandy? Then the heated and covered pool at your Sandaya campsite is a dream spot! The Normandy sunshine can be dazzling or more subdued, but is always best enjoyed from the terrace of an all-comfort cottage while your little campers make the most of the free children’s club. There’s nothing like the sea air to restore your energy levels and some sport to unwind; here, we’ve thought of everything to make you happy and make sure your stay at Sandaya is enjoyable!

Visit Avranches with the family

It’s time to learn to ride a horse – or at least a bicycle! The Manche department can be explored during some lovely family outings beside the sea or further inland along the path towards Mont-Saint-Michel. If water-based activities feature on your holiday To Do list, canoeing on the River Sée will provide you with your dose of thrills and its small rapids that can be navigated by all.

You will spot it from the botanical garden and you won’t take your eyes off it the whole journey there… we’re referring to Mont-Saint-Michel, of course! The mount reigns over the whole bay, and a visit will keep the whole family happy with a chance to enjoy culinary excellence, admire breathtaking landscapes and take a walk in the quicksands. Decidedly, the jewel in Normandy’s crown is full of surprises! And who knows? There may be more we haven’t told you about!

Visit Avranches as a couple

The stronghold of William the Conqueror is ideal for a romantic escapade. Stroll through the streets of Avranches, revel in the charm of its little squares and fall under the spell of the town’s distinctive atmosphere. You’ll be captivated by the keep, the ramparts and the churches, which add to the town’s particularly warm atmosphere.

When the light starts to fade, it’s time to gather around a table at a restaurant in Granville or Coutances and savour some of the outstanding produce. Normandy cider and baked Camembert are just a couple of the treats that await you!

Camping Avranches: our handy tips for a successful stay

It is worth finding out more about Aubert, Bishop of Avranches, and his heritage to understand what makes Avranches so special.

There is a circuit to take you around the town’s emblematic landmarks – feel free to ask for information at the Tourist Office.

If hiking is your thing, note that Avranches lies close to the GR 223 trail that links Mont-Saint-Michel to the city of Le Havre. Don’t forget to bring your walking shoes!

Le Scriptorial museum of manuscripts is a must. It will please anyone with a keen interest in French history but also non-specialists who can come along to admire the architecture and the invaluable artefacts on show.
