Visit Saint-Palais-sur-Mer with the family
Perfect for families, the seaside resort of Saint-Palais-sur-Mer knows how to please holidaymakers of all ages. And it has to be said that with its very special location between ocean and forest, the choice of activities is nothing if not varied. You’ve been waiting all year to hit the water? Then head straight for the Nauzan beach and its watersports club for sailing lessons with all the family: dinghy, optimist or “fun boat”, take your pick!
Prepare for a total change of scenery in the Saint-Augustin forest, just north of the town. Between maritime pines and oaks, let the cycle tracks and hiking trails lead you on foot or by bike through an exceptional natural setting. You can even try fishing for crayfish in the Saint-Augustin marshes, suddenly you’ll feel every inch the true “Charentais”.

Perhaps the major attraction at Saint-Palais-sur-Mer is its fabulous panorama: ocean, Gironde estuary, Cordouan lighthouse... You’ll never tire of admiring the view! And to make the most of it, the Le Bureau beach marks the starting point for a walk along the Customs Path. On your way, admire Saint-Palais’ famous Belle Époque villas and the fishing huts on stilts with their square fishing nets, the “carrelets” so typical of the Charente-Maritime. Strongly recommended for those in search of a romantic walk together, abandon yourselves to its incredible charm!
When you arrive, take time out to visit the former customs house, the Maison des Douanes. Dedicated to art and the history of the town it also offers access to its tree-planted garden and belvedere, dream on as your gaze lingers over the ocean waves!
