Visit Le Mont-Dore with the family
In summer, Le Mont-Dore offers a mountain of leisure activities for all the family. And to make the very most of it, there’s nothing better than climbing the Pic du Capucin to discover all the activities available at the top. During the summer months you can easily reach its summit aboard the legendary Mont-Dore funicular railway, the oldest electric funicular in France!
And once at the top, simply take your pick: hiking with the family, trail-running, tree-climbing, via ferrata... You can even experience the thrills of a hair-raising summer luge run! Our favourite excursion: the Sylvatorium, a sensory trail through the Le Capucin forest, renowned for its soothing effects!
Visit Le Mont-Dore as a couple
As the departure point for the Puy de Sancy, Le Mont-Dore is home to the highest view of the Massif Central. After your ascent by cable car, it’s only a 20-minute walk to reach the summit at an altitude of 1,886m. You’re truly on the roof of Auvergne. All you have to do now is soak up the incredible panoramic view! After so much effort you certainly deserve a little comfort: it’s time to head for Le Mont-Dore’s historical spa. With its Byzantine architecture and Roman remains it’s as fascinating as a museum to visit, but why not make the most of the moment for a spa session, just the two of you together?
Bring your visit to Le Mont-Dore to a close by heading off along the Ronde des Cascades, a waymarked footpath through the heart of the forest. At the end of your route the Le Queureuilh and Le Rosignolet waterfalls provide a well-deserved reward!
