Visit the Puy-de-Dôme with the family
When camping in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme, there is one outing that is truly unmissable... the Puy de Dôme itself! The highest summit in the Chaîne des Puys, this ancient volcano gave its name to the whole department. After a great holiday breakfast with the family, lace up your walking shoes ready to climb its 1,465m. The view from the top is more than worth the effort! To pierce all its secrets head to Vulcania, the famous theme park dedicated to volcanoes. With its interactive exhibits it offers the perfect way to learn whilst having fun!
On your way back to the campsite, stop off at Murol Castle, standing proudly above Lake Chambon. In summer, knights and troubadours take over the fortress to immerse you in the heart of the Middle Ages. A visit that is always an unfailing success for families!
Visit the Puy-de-Dôme as a couple
To enjoy a complete panorama over the Puy-de-Dôme, all you have to do is climb to the top of its highest summit! So set your heading for the Puy de Sancy, with its total height of 1,886m it’s the highest volcano in France. But if the very idea of an ascent of 546m on foot gives you vertigo, take the cable car and relax as you admire its incredible views.
The slopes of the Puy de Sancy offer plenty of fascinating discoveries for the two of you. Unmissable, a visit to the Saint-Nectaire church provides a breathtaking view over the whole massif. And don’t leave without tasting its famous PDO cheese! Over in Mont-Dore, a spot of wellness therapy is exactly what you need after all that effort. Not just a renowned spa resort, you can also take a refreshing walk to discover its innumerable waterfalls!
