Port-Louis, the perfect holiday destination!

Welcome to Port-Louis, the citadel-town of the Morbihan. The gateway to Lorient bay, this pretty seaside resort offers plenty of chances for you to soak up the culture, which will amuse you and amaze you. From its beaches to its museums, not to mention the citadel that gave the town its name and which is well worth a visit, Port-Louis will delight families and lovebirds alike.

For your holidays in Brittany, nothing could be better than one of our Sandaya campsites! Water parks with swimming pools and water slides, free children's clubs, activities during the daytime and in the evening, all this in the most beautiful tourist destinations: the best of camping is at Sandaya!

Visit Port-Louis with your family

Formerly a major sea port, it is not surprising that the town is home to not one, but two museums devoted to its maritime past: the National Maritime Museum and the East India Company Museum. The first is devoted to the history of sea rescue and underwater archaeology, while the second, with its rich collection, recounts the wealth of trade with the Orient. A perfect activity for all the family!

Before or after your cultural break, put on your swimming costume and apply some sun cream and make your way to Grande Plage at the foot of the citadel! Lay down your towel and set off to enjoy the pleasures of the water. Swimming galore, crab fishing, building sandcastles or lazing in the sun, there's something for everyone by the ocean!

Visit Port-Louis as a couple

On foot is still the best way to visit Port-Louis! Hand in hand with your other half, stroll along Grande Rue, the town's main thoroughfare where you will find many shops and restaurants. Next, set off on an old sailing ship bound for the island of Groix and enjoy a spot of lunch on board.
If you want to continue on the theme of water, the coastline of Brittany is the perfect place for water sports. Stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, kitesurfing and even surfing (yes, you read that right!), ride the waves on the vessel of your choice and take advantage of this romantic interlude by the sea.

Camping Port Louis: our handy tips for a successful stay

Did you know? The citadel has hosted some famous prisoners including Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte in 1836!

Handy tip: take the waterbus to Port-Louis from Lorient. You will reach your destination in just 10 minutes and be able to admire the Breton coastline, all for the price of a bus ticket.

It's no secret that Brittany has a whole host of culinary specialities. Caramel, kouign amann (butter cake) and freshly caught seafood are all to be consumed without moderation!

Whether you're an experienced hiker or a beginner, this is the perfect walk for everyone: from the small ramparts to the marshes of the Petite Mer de Gâvres. 8 km to explore the coast of Port Louis!
